Freedom from Fracking waste rally, city hall, Auburn, NY, literally down the street from the home of Harriet Tubman. Closing remarks by Mary Menapace of Cayuga Anti-Fracking Alliance:
"In six months, on March 10, 2013, we will celebrate the life of and acknowledge the century anniversary of the death of, Harriet Tubman. She lived here in Auburn, down this very road, South Street. "Harriet lived in a time when society accepted and legitimized into law a basic injustice..that a human being was a commodity to be bought, sold and exploited. Harriet lived her life in defiance of that untruth, that injustice. And she lived to see slavery outlawed, a crime against humankind. "Today, one hundred years later, we live in a society where it is accepted and legitimized that the gifts of the very earth, the air we breathe and the waters that sustain us are commodities to be bought, sold and exploited. We gather here today in defiance of this untruth. We will live in defiance of this injustice. And we will bring about the day when fracking is outlawed as a crime against nature.
