Youngstown City Council PUC 7-22-12 Fracking Ban w/ CELDF: 4 videos - parts 1-4 of Youngstown City Council PUC Meeting July, 22, 2012, Presentation Rights-based Fracking Ban
Youngstown, Ohio, July 20, 2012 – There will be an important meeting of the Public Utilities Committee Sunday, July 22, 2012, at 1:00 PM, at the Youngstown City Council Chambers, 26 S. Phelps St. (6th floor). Use the Police Department entrance on Boardman St.
Media and the public are encouraged to attend.
The speaker will be Ben Price of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund. Price will discuss the Youngstown Citizens' Rights-Based Ban on Hydrofracturing (fracking) that is currently before the Youngstown City Council for consideration.
National and state laws leave local communities powerless to regulate (zone) the locations of fracking operations (fracking and injection wells). However, dozens of communities have asserted control over the fracking industry by invoking the Constitution of the United States, specifically our right to clean water and air.
As Projects Director of Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, Mr. Price helped draft the first rights-based ban for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an internationally recognized event.
Citizens are now asking Youngstown authorities to pass such a ban for the local watershed and park, areas critical to the long-term health of the community.
For those concerned about fracking’s health and environmental impacts this is a must-attend event.
